Schneier on security

Bruce Schneier has some good comments on What the Terrorists Want. An excerpt:
"It's time we calm down and fight terror with antiterror. This does not mean that we simply roll over and accept terrorism. There are things our government can and should do to fight terrorism, most of them involving intelligence and investigation -- and not focusing on specific plots.

But our job is to remain steadfast in the face of terror, to refuse to be terrorized. Our job is to not panic every time two Muslims stand together checking their watches. There are approximately 1 billion Muslims in the world, a large percentage of them not Arab, and about 320 million Arabs in the Middle East, the overwhelming majority of them not terrorists. Our job is to think critically and rationally, and to ignore the cacophony of other interests trying to use terrorism to advance political careers or increase a television show's viewership."

got sun?

This is cool. If, like me, you tire of purchasing new AA batteries for your camera/gps/mp3 player/flashlight/etc., or will be traveling in a foreign country with wonky electrical outlets and cannot use your rechargeables, try going solar. Sundance Solar sells a variety of lightweight rechargers for AA, AAA, 9 volt and other batteries, most of which fit into your pocket. My favorite is the Foldable Solar Battery Charger, which was originally designed for the military and weighs only 7.2 oz. with 4 AA's in it. According to the specs, 2 batteries charge in about 4 hours of full sun, 4 batteries charge in about 8 hours. The charger "adds less weight than carrying 4 extra batteries." Not bad, unless you'll be vacationing in the Arctic during the dark season.

I need this, of course

poem of the day lifetime

I Have Learned So Much

I
Have
Learned
So much from God
That I can no longer
Call
Myself

A Christian, a Hindu, a Muslim,
a Buddhist, a Jew.

The Truth has shared so much of Itself
With me

That I can no longer call myself
A man, a woman, an angel,
Or even a pure
Soul.

Love has
Befriended Hafiz so completely
It has turned to ash
And freed
Me

Of every concept and image
my mind has ever known.

--Hafiz

so..

Once again, folks--sorry for the lack, dearth, void, nothing, emptiness, gone, and overall complete absence of anything new here of late. However, I will have much to report once my trip is over. I'm currently in Colorado, Fort Collins to be exact, visiting Dave Williams and climbing mountains. I'll be back before you know it.
